I see now that things here are not done as they are in my world.

Where I am from, neutralizing the perpetrator of more despicable crimes is only one concern. The second is making sure they do not forget what happens if they do such things.

I once took down a ring of men who forced children to engage in sexual acts on film, for their sick pleasure. After this, I beat them for it. I do not feel bad for doing so. Is it wrong that I did this? To me, it is not. It was not robbery; it was not a bar-fight; it was not vandalism. It was the defilement of children. That, like kidnapping and the beating of defenseless women, are not things I have ever dealt with lightly.

I did not know such a soft hand was the way of things on this ship. Had I, I would not have acted as is customary for me back home.

However, I will now "go along to get along." I have spoken to Angel, he who mans security here, and I will play by his rules from this day forward. No longer will inmates have anything to fear from me if they've already been "handled" by another warden, whether I feel they should pay further or not.

That is all.

Where you're from, Charlie would never've got assigned who he was, in the first place, Sam.

I'm not openly condoning what happened, but this system never fucking changes. Remember how he went for Giselle? Rube was a real step up. God knows why someone like Rose got sent his way. She's practically a paper doll, next to that guy.

Sil', here, keeps getting yelled at, but she's just a symptom, not the cause.

Rose's assignment to Charlie, again has nothing to do with attacking an Inmate in need of medical attention. Once again, ROSE WAS SAFE BY THE TIME THIS EVENT OCCURRED.

If I'm the one who keeps getting told not to see everything so black and white, how come nobody else is seeing this is just a piece of the puzzle?

I'm not condoning her, but I won't outrightly condemn her, either, because I don't know how I would've acted (sorely tempted to beat the shit out of him, at the very least). You've got your methods, some of us have ours. You're a cop, me and her grew up with the vigilante 'law of the jungle' approach. Maybe the Admiral wants a little of both, when push comes to shove. Far as I'm concerned, deck 0 won't ever be enough for some of these guys. We need a way to reinforce respect, if not fear, beyond just isolation.

And I still say we need electro-shock collars.

I know you won't agree with any of this (and likely Morgan, for one, won't, either), but it's how I feel.

This is supposed to be a place of learning, of rehabilitation. Fear shouldn't have any place here. It solves nothing; it doesn't promote any real growth. How do you expect the Inmates to trust us when nonsense like this happens?

No, that doesn't solve anything! It puts us all at a stand-still, and nobody will get anything done! Nobody reforms, and nobody earns their ticket home.

Tell me you wouldn't love someone to put the fear of God into, say, your walking likeness... I think we both know it might do him a world of good.

Look, a part of me would love that, yeah, but again, what would that accomplish except to make him angrier and more rabid?

He can get angry, all he wants. So long as he's got motivation not to try anything, that's what matters.

Then you can work on the psychoanalytical horsecrap.

No, it just means he'll lash out harder the next time. Fear doesn't keep somebody down permanently.

Depends how much they have.

Let's just say I've got an awful lot of experience in that side of things. We're going to have to agree to disagree.

Am I the only one that didn't remember the Rose that was here all this time before carrying a gun? Especially early on?

I wasn't expecting good things out of Rose being assigned to Charlie but new Rose or not I would never have called her helpless. I agree with you, Rayne, that the Admiral either wasn't thinking or he has something planned that I cannot conceive of.

And no, I don't agree with you. We need the Inmates to trust us, not fear us.

Like I say, you've got your methods, others have theirs. Trust works with some, not others. I don't pretend to know how this place. Likely never will.

This Rose either doesn't have any firearms or got it taken off of her. Thing wasn't exactly pocket-sized, anyhow.

Hell, I wouldn't put it past him to take it off her, if he got close enough. Then we'd be in a world of trouble.

To Hell with method, Rayne. You're either a Warden, here, or you're a jailer. You don't get to be both.

Doing what I signed up for. Setting wrongs right in the way I always have.

The way they pair us up might be screwy, but there's a reason we're each here.

Look, I don't recall ever yanking your chain about being a pirate. Not in my more sober moments, anyway. Point is, if we were on an old sailing ship in a storm, I'd follow your lead, any day.

It's horses for courses, y'know?

And if we were where you come from where there's vampires and crazy German women, I'd follow yours. This place is neither here nor there.

That's all I'm saying. I don't exactly do everything here the way I would have back home, y'know.
